The Washington Office is the way the ELCA reaches and supports grassroots movements to change government policy. Some of the primary issues The Washington Office works on are human rights, global climate change and immigration.
LDR is a collaborative ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Following a major domestic disaster, LDR seeks to minister holistically to the unmet needs of those affected, regardless of faith or creed.
The Lutheran World Federation (LFW) has offices in Geneva, Switzerland. The LWF is a global communion of Christian churches in the Lutheran tradition. Founded in 1947 in Lund, Sweden, the LWF now has 140 member churches in 79 countries all over the world representing over 68.3 million Christians.
Every day in 35 countries, Lutheran World Relief (LWR) works to combat the causes of poverty and the dignity it robs from people’s lives. They advocate for Fair Trade that helps farming families and artisans earn a better income. LWR teach people to better care for themselves, their communities and the environment. They teach people how to be less vulnerable to natural disasters. The organization advocates with and for them for policy change that more fairly represents them. They counsel them after manmade and natural disasters, and help them recover with material aid. LWR does all of this exclusively with partners from the communities it serves.
LIRS serves all refugees, "regardless of national origin, race, religion, culture or legal status." As the second largest of the 10 U.S. voluntary agencies that handle this work in the United States, LIRS resettled 6,425 refugees in 2007. LIRS has specialized in resettling refugee children who come to this country without family members. Through a national network of affiliates, LIRS resettles refugees, reunites families, promotes education and employment, and provides the supports necessary for early and continuing self-sufficiency.
Augsburg Fortress Publishing Co. is the the ELCA's publishing company. It provides theological texts and practical teaching tools for ELCA churches around the world.
