Youth and Family

Lutheran Church of the Reformation

Youth and Family Ministry is Rooted in Worship, Study, Services and Fellowship!

We are children, youth and families growing in grace, expressing our Christian faith in our lives and worship. We are sent out to serve our church, our community, our city and our world. Contact the Church Office or Pastor Braaten for more information, or join us at one of our activities and events.

This Just In: Youth Raises Record Funds for Food Pantry!

Our youth group, led by Luke Frerichs and supported by many others, raised over $6,000 at the 2009 Souper Bowl of Caring. With the help of auctioneer extraordinaire Del Voss, and the spirited bidding by congregation members, enough funds were raised to buy over 400 bags that will feed over 1,600 people! Items on the auction block ranged from home-made pies to car washes to a private tour by the Secretary of the Senate - our own Nancy Erickson!

Worship, Music and the Arts

We encourage our youth to enjoy and particpate fully in the experiences of worship, music and the arts as part of a faith community.

Worship

Children are invited to join the pastors and worship leaders around the font for Baptisms and to participate in regular children's sermons offered each month. Parents are welcome to come forward with young children to share in these special moments of worship and preaching.

Readers

Youth readers are scheduled to serve on the third Sunday of each month. Karen Cowden coordinates this service. Dates this year are September 18, October 16, November 20 and December 18.

Acolytes

Each week, September to June, two youth serve as acolytes during the 11:00am service. This involves vesting for worship, processing, lighting the candles, handing out the offering plates and extinguishing the candles at the close of worship. Anyone third grade and above is encouraged to be trained to serve. Please contact Karen Cowden for scheduling.

Presenting the Eucharistic Gifts

On the third Sunday of each month, different families bring the bread for communion at the 11:00am service.

Gospel Drama

Occassionally, during the 11:00am service, as well as on Christmas Eve, the children and youth have the opportunity to interpret the Gospel in drama, with music and through performance art.

Music

Young voices sing With One Voice. Sharon Swingle leads the Little Laudates each Sunday in the Children's Chapel (during the sermon). Children ages 3-8 are welcome to come and sing with the group. Paul Leavitt, our Director of Music and the Arts, supports children and youth ages 8 and older through special musical offerings and concert opportunities.
