Spiritual Growth and Formation: Adult Education at Church of the Reformation
Faith Formation is a fundamental commitment of Christian life. Faith Formation and growth in faith is intentional. It asks openness, invites discipline, encourages the probing of new information and celebrates new understanding. Learning does not happen by accident. It is a choice we make, inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit.
And so St. Paul writes: I pray that out of his glorious riches [the Lord] may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. [St. Paul in Ephesians 3:16-19]
We invite you to participate in the Adult Education opportunities set out this fall of 2007 at Church of the Reformation.
The Adult Forum meets between the two worship services, from
9:45 – 10:45 am in the Parish Hall.
The Monday Night class meets at 7:00 pm in Upper 220. Other events as indicated.
INQUIRY CLASSES: Sunday, June 1, 8 & 15
We will hold another session this spring for people interested in exploring Church of the Reformation community, activities, and theology & witness. Led by Pr. Braaten and other congregational leaders, the class will center the text: Baptized We Live: A Way of being Lutheran by Rev. Daniel Erlander. Classes will be in the Fireside Room on Sundays at 9:45 – 10:45am. Please let the office or Pastor Braaten know you are interested in participating.
ADULT FORUM:
The Adult Forum meets between the two regularly scheduled worship services at 9:45am – 10:45am in the Parish Hall. All are invited – on any and all Sundays. Check the Homepage for current topics.
Eclipsing Empire: Paul, Rome and the Kingdom of God – a Monday night Bible Study and guided DVD/Discussion series focusing on the Apostle Paul. The class begins Monday, Feb. 11 at 7:00pm in Upper 220. Main presenters are Dr. John Dominic Crossan and Dr. Marcus Borg, two of the most renowned biblical scholars in America today. They will take us on a 12-session journey through the ancient cities of Asia and Europe where St. Paul first spread the Gospel to a Greco-Roman world. Living the Questions
Wednesday night Home Study beginning February 13 at 8:00pm. Craig Middlebrook and Amy Northcutt are inviting people to their home in Falls Church, VA to participate in this12-session guided DVD/Discussion series. Living the Questions will help people explore the future of Christianity and what a meaningful faith can look like in today's world.
